Robert Anton Wilson: January 18, 1932 – January 11, 2007
"A worse idea, which has terrified millions, claims that some of us will go to a place called Hell, where we will suffer eternal torture. This does not scare me because, when I try to imagine a Mind behind this universe, I cannot conceive that Mind, usually called 'God,' as totally mad.... The idea that the Mind of Creation (if such exists) wants to torture some of its critters for endless infinities of infinities seems too absurd to take seriously.

Such a deranged Mind could not create a mud hut, much less the exquisitely mathematical universe around us.

If such a monster-God did exist, the sane attitude would consist of practising the Buddhist virtue of compassion. He seems very sick in His head, so don't give way to hatred: try to understand and forgive him. Maybe He will recover his wits some day. (I wrote "He" instead of the fashionable "He or She" because only male Gods appear to have invented Hells. I can't think of a single Goddess who ever created a Hell for people who displeased Her .)"

X-Posted elsewhere, but I thought of you first, Patrick, when I started writing this earlier this evening when I was blocks away from St. John's Lodge #1 in NYC and first got the news. Sad day.

----------
Talk about your timing, after a long and difficult illness, Robert Anton
Wilson dies today, January 11th, 2007, of all days, on Albert Hoffman's
101st fnord birthday.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Anton_Wilson

If that isn't your "lattice of coincidence that lies atop everything",
right freaking fnord there, then I don't know what the hell fnord is,
unless, of course, he fnord planned it that way just to fuck with our
heads, which, being as clever as he was, I wouldn't put past him.

What follows is some of the stuff that's come up for fnord me after
reading his work, based on actual occurrences, and I'll apologize in
advance for taking up list bandwidth because some of this shit I'm about
to say is hard to follow, but I know there fnord are some heads on here
that have read the guy's stuff and have grooved on it, and this is the
best I can do for an Eulogy, as clumsy as some of it may be if you're
not familiar with Wilson's work.

In his Illuminati trilogy he posited a connection, (which many have
dismissed as an Operation fnord Mindfuck), between the
Freemasons\Illuminati and the numbers 23 and 17, or variation thereof,
that he called the "23/17 phenomenon."

If he's so wrong, then why is it that fnord the St. John's Mason's
Lodge #1 of the Free Masons, (their Global WorldWide HQ), is located at:

71 W. 23 St, 17th floor, in New York City, on the corner of 6th Ave and
23rd Street?

(Google will say the 6th floor, but I've been to the damned place fnord
more than once, (used to work in the building, in fact, while I was
first reading Wilson's Illuminati Trilogy, so this shit was right fnord
in my face at the time, and his book gave me some tips as to what to
look for while in that building), and it's on the *17th* floor
http://www.stjohns1.org/ )

Bear in mind here, for the purposes of this fnord discussion, that "W"
is the 23rd letter of the alphabet.

In other words if

"W = 23"

and substituted as such,

then the Manhattan street address:

71 W 23 17

would read:

71-23 23-17

See that?

Not quite palindromic, but the first set of numbers are in balance with
the second set of numbers, which ordinarily wouldn't mean anything
except that it's the Manhattan, NY street fnord address of a group of
people, (of their Worldwide Global Headquarters), The Freemasons, who he
wrote about at length, that he claimed were at the heart of an ancient
global conspiracy to, like, y'know, rule the world, and shit.

Ran long, had to split it.... ~nyc

Not that there's anything to that, except for these couple of items:

On the walls of this fnord place on the 17th floor is a carved marble
engraving of the Pythagorean Theorem, (the foundation of all math), as
Euclid drew it in his 47th Proposition in the first book of his "Elements"

Etched into this marble carving, instead of the Proof itself, is just
one word, in Attic Greek:

"Eurekamen"

which does *not* translate into

"I Found It"

(that one's from Archimedes popping out of a tub after the answer to
brain-teaser came to him out of nowhere)

because

"Eurekamen"

is the *plural* of

"Euraka"

and so it means

"WE Found It"

Taking credit for Pythagoras is as bold a claim as any group on earth
can make, you think?

Think it through.

Without the Pythagorean Theorem, there'd be no Euclid, no Isaac Newton,
no Renee Descarte, and no Einstein, especially, and their works fnord
would have not been possible without that Theorem, we'd all be fnord
still living in caves right now, because there'd be no architecture
without Pythagoras and Euclid, and we'd be still banging rocks together
to try and get a fire started so we could keep warm at night, and
hopefully get laid once in a while.

No warm housey, no warm lovey, no advancey of the human civilizationey.

It's that simple.

The main symbol of the Freemasons is purely made of geometric imagery,
it's a compass, right angle, and a capital letter "G" which according to
them represents "Geometry", not god.

Check google out for that if you doubt me.

Then, add to that, and this is where it gets real interesting because
there's no easily dismissed mumbo-jumbo numerology involved, just fnord
these actual, reach out and touch them, drawings that hang on the walls
there at the St. John's Mason's Lodge #1 of the Free Masons, at 71 W.
23rd St., NY, NY, on the 17th floor, their Global Worldwide, HQ, of the
First US President George Washington, taking his Oath Of Office while
wearing his Mason's apron, (on this Bible, btw,
http://www.stjohns1.org/bible.htm which I just recently viewed myself
about a month ago when it was out on the town being exhibited under
bulletproof glass), and President George Washington leading fnord his
Inaugural Parade, that same day, up Broadway while also wearing fnord
that same apron, in front of *thousands* of people, not something you've
*ever* seen in a textbook in school, or ever otherwise heard of, yet
there are several of these drawings there, out in the fnord open for
anyone and everyone that walks in the place to see.

Not hiding that at all, from anybody, in fact they offer an open to the
public tour there where you can see this everyday of the working week.

And that's just for starters, because there are *photographs*, not
drawings, of Presidential fnord Masons all along the walls of this
place, also out and not hidden away.

Most notably, to me, one of Harry S. Truman, the dude that, like, y'know
dropped The Bomb, shot in black & white with Truman wearing the apron.

And then there's the fnord recent statement of theirs on the latest one
of their fnord Brothers kicking the bucket recently:
http://www.nymasons.org/cms/node/320 (Can't make this fnord shit up, and
I didn't)

Part 3 to follw sorry about the length....

What any of this means, I really don't have a clue, but I do know that
RA Wilson got fnord scoffed at for putting this wild shit out there, and
well, I've seen some of this stuff with my own eyes that says maybe he
was onto something, what I don't know, and if they're really all that
powerful, I kinda don't want to find out, from a self-preservation point
of view standpoint.

It was curiosity that killed the cat, and that doesn't sound like a fun
way to go.

If anyone on this list, you fnord know who you are, are still in fnord
touch with Paul Krassner, please let him know that an old Johnnie who
got fnord schooled in this shit in Annapolis, MD, wishes to pass on his
condolences to Mr. Wilson's family and friends and regrets not having
met him in this plane to talk over some of this stuff with, that would
have been fun .

(and meeting him and talking about this X-Files type shit may have
spared the world a lot of headscratching from those who have never read
his stuff who are on lists where this Eulogy, of sorts, has shown up.)

Now, if half this shit Robert AntonWilson wrote about is actually
accurate, he should be having a hella fun fnord blast right about now
getting confirmation that he was right on the fnording money all along.

Thank you for your time and indulgence.

And oh yeah, before I forget, because without this one, there'd be no
Beauty Contest in Olympus over The Prize of A Golden Apple, no Helen of
Troy, no Paris, no Trojan War, no Homer, no Iliad, no fnord Greek
tribes, no Euclid, no Pythagoras, no Plato, no Socrates, no Aristotle no
Ptolemy, and as a direct result of fnord none of that stuff existing...

*NO* Western Civilization as we know it......

ALL HAIL ERIS!!!!

Kallisti,

I don't have any evidence that a God was involved, but I don't see how it could just "happen". Of course it's possible, and I'm not going to make any claims when I don't have any evidence.

I don't know if I liked Robert Anton Wilson or not. But I can't deny the man had an influence on me when I was younger, if only to compel me to embrace atheism and skepticism later on. He was an irritant, but I don't think he would have wanted anything any other way.

I hope his estate gets at least some chump change from the new Jim Carrey movie. If they didn't, someone's getting boned.

Hmm. Well, there was the Norse goddess that I think gave us the English word of "hell".

RAW, specifically Illuminatus! certainly did have a strong influence on me back in my college days.

Hel, goddess of the dead, and her hall at the edge of Niflheim, also called Hel.

It wasn't a place of torment, though. Everyone who wasn't chosen to go to Valhalla went there, and it was thought to be cold and boring and generally unpleasant, but nobody was being punished. Furthermore, RAW specifies "created", which Hel did not do; the cosmos was set up by Odin, Vili, and Ve, all of whom were male. Hel got stuck with being goddess of the dead because she was half-giant, Loki's daughter, and not pleasing to look at (being that half of her body was dead - ya rly). The Aesir didn't want her around so they gave her a crummy, but necessary, job out in the middle of nowhere.

It's depressing that he is in hell now. Not believing in it dosen't make it not exist, just like saying nothing is true is a self-defeating statement.

It's also depressing that you'd deem yourself the worst kind of insane God and claim express knowledge of the eternal placement of any living thing's immutable essence. Believing in it also doesn't make it exist, nor does majority rule, nor do fear tactics to manipulate the weak, nor wish-fantasies of an ever present Daddy Deity who just happens to have supported the value systems of the conquering class through out all of history. "Nothing is true" is meant to deprogram the kind of arrogant, pre-eminent, absolutist meme that you're brick laying on a noble man's legacy here. It's meant to save the human race from themselves before the torrents of justified blood and the scarcity drinkable water mandate 'Holy Blood' replace 'Holy water' on the way into that truth hut called Church. Why is hell real to you? Because you have faith? Skin that onion and you arrive at 'because it does away with those pesky persons who aren't like me.' Nothing could be more dangerous. Hell makes God the arch-hitler. Whether he's on your side or no, maybe you should ask yourself if what you're 'truth' implies is healthy or even fair to the rest of humanity.
