A Happy New Year to All
I know I haven't posted in a while. The truth is I haven't had anything new or interesting to report -- I'm still working on the Undisclosed Film Project by day, and by night still jerking back and forth between 20 different personal projects, all of which are about 75% complete, but none of which is solidly compelling enough to exclude all the others and inspire me to finish it. I recognize the problem as adult ADD; my goal in 2008 is to find and receive effective treatment for it.* Or become rich/powerful enough that I can gather an army of minions to complete my work for me.

On the issue of the missing domain: long story short, I forgot that E-SHEEP.COM was up for renewal in November (see comment above regarding ADD), and as the snail-mail reminders from NetSol never forwarded to my Portland address, I woke up one morning to discover the fine folks at Sedo.de had snatched it up for me. They're kindly offering to sell it back to me for a modest price, but to be honest, I never liked having a domain with a hyphen in it. At least not enough to pay the sum they're asking. So, Electric Sheep Comics will return shortly at www.electricsheepcomics.com.

When will there be new content? I honestly can't tell you. If my web comics actually generated an income for me, I'd be a fucking machine, I swear I would. But until that time -- or at least, until I have a "hands-free" source of income (such as, say, the residuals from a successful Hollywood film) , those E-Sheep comics are going to have to lurk in the "When I Have Time" circle of Limbo.

That being said, I've got a good feeling about 2008.

May the New Year bring you corners turned, humps surmounted, and at least 3 excellent meals.

AND NOW SOMETHING FOR THE KIDS:
You may be too young to remember the band Missing Persons, although you probably remember their song "Destination Unknown" as covered by the Smashing Pumpkins. (If you're too young to remember the Smashing Pumpkins, I'm afraid I can't help you). While I can't speak to the quality of this video, and [insert cheap shot at Eighties hairstyles here], this is one of my favorite songs from childhood, and today seems a good day to give it a listen. NerdNote: Dale Bozzio, lead singer of Missing Persons, was the stylistic inspiration for Pris in the movie Blade Runner. Enjoy!

*Current health provider tells me I don't have ADD; I'm just "an energetic person with a lot of varying interests," or so the counselor told me. Which was so very, very helpful.

Happy New Year Patrick! As someone finding herself challenged to complete anything that doesnt have either royalties or a paycheck attached, I feel your pain. I hope we get to see you in 2008, and that this will be the year that comics micropayment systems will suddenly catch on. Or something. xoxoxo - kia

Hmmm...do you have a tip jar? Do you accept advertising on at least some pages. I know some people do make at least some money from their web sites; it is at least possible.

I am greatly relieved to read that the electric sheep archives are returning.

In the meantime, do what you need to do. Anyone with your talents will get discovered and emboodled eventually.

I've long thought that several of your projects would make insanely great cartoons of the Adult Swim variety. "Scotty Barracuda" in particular. And the Thanksgiving special.

Yeah, put up a tip jar. Make the link visible at the beginning and end of each comic (or chapter).

Stefan

A bonus for A.D.D. folks living in Portland is that the dismal, dreary weather this time of year makes you want to stay inside, limiting your access to many distracting endeavours.

And you're the guy that will make micro-payments happen. Something more than just a tip jar. It's seeing the need for a new, different way of doing things that makes those things come to fruition.

HAPPY NEW YEAR. Don't give up on the ADD thing! Email Jim - jcox at sonic dot net for all sorts of suggestions for books you can get - even free from the local library - that can help you learn things all on your own about it without the stupid medical system. It took us some time to get the medical system on his side but if you think you may have it there is plenty of curiousity 2am avoiding something else reading that you can do!

HUGS

Thank you, thank you, thank you for being going to bring back (damn future past tense) electric sheep. The Jain's Death and several others are some of the most incredible and inspiring pieces of comic fiction that I have ever read.

I literally cried when I found your domain missing.

Oi, Patrick: would you please shoot me an email at jkimpton at gmail dot com? I desire to pester you with a couple of questions. I tried to contact you via @livejournal.com, but the mailer daemon chewed it up and spit it back at me, and obviously @e-sheep.com doesn't work...

grazie!

Yes, I add my voices to the others, first in praise - your comics are wonderful! And in warning - you have apparently let the e-sheep.com domain lapse! I'm accustomed to waiting years at a time for your webcomic updates - as one webcomic reviewer said, it's well worth the wait. But don't let your whole domain name lapse!

As for your multiple-incomplete-projects issue, I have many of the same challenges - half a dozen incomplete novels, in my case, as well as an incomplete college degree and a million incomplete household projects. I'm sure I'll get around to scanning in all my hardcopy photographs and labeling all my MP3s Real Soon Now...

Like you I suspected ADD - like you I was told no, not ADD, that I just have a problem committing to and completing projects.

My tactic has been to try to be satisfied with just working on two or three things at a time, and be willing to let others slide without beating myself up over the other projects.

But you, your gifts are so phenomenal, I really want to encourage you to get the webcomics back online as soon as your life allows.

Meanwhile if e-sheep.com has been hijacked by a squatter with prohibitive prices for getting it back, I have a pretty good domain name I'd transfer to you for cost, since I'm not using it. Oddly enough, because my friend who was going to put a webcomic on it still hasn't gotten around to doing so...

Glad to hear that e-sheep hasn't totally evaporated -- someone sent me a link about Shooting War today and I thought "...it looks like kind of like 'Spiders', only not nearly as awesome.." but alas, I couldn't fire it back at 'em. "Delta Thrives," "Apocamon," and "The Jain's Death" had become cornerstones of the Web to me while I was in college, and I was surprised and saddened to see them vanish -- here's to their eventual triumphant return :)

I miss the sheep. Here's to a speedy recovery.

And I definitely recommend a tip jar. Jonathan Coulton has the monkey/robot/
thing, Len Peralta of Jawbone has Monster by Mail, and Ape Lad did something similar with monkeys and hoboes before he hit the relative big time with the Laugh Out Loud Cats. Some of those ideas might help bring in some online revenue.

I am so fucking relieve to hear this!!

I was terrified that I had lost e-sheep forever, it was one of my earliest webcomic encounters and, in hindsight, still probably the finest. Looking forward very, very much to its return and if you can't get much new stuff up then that's fine, I still haven't read all of the archives.

Thus far I've been coping via the Wayback Machine, which randomly misses out pages and occasionally entire strips. Glad that I am not going to have to rely upon that forever.
